Unreleased AMD RX 7000 triple-slot cooler hints at abandoned RTX 4090 rival plans

A forum member discovered an unreleased AMD graphics card cooler prototype through an online Chinese retailer. The massive cooling system belongs to the Radeon RX 7000 series but never reached consumers. Comparison with standard RX 7900 XTX models reveals significant differences in size and design.

The prototype measures 33 centimeters compared to the retail version's 29 centimeters. Engineers designed the cooler with three power connector slots instead of the typical two found on production cards. The triple-slot thickness exceeds standard reference designs by substantial margins.

Evidence suggests AMD developed this cooling solution for a potential RTX 4090 competitor that remained unreleased. The company previously acknowledged capabilities to create such high-end hardware but avoided production due to power consumption and manufacturing costs. This discovery supports theories about abandoned flagship graphics cards from the RDNA 3 generation.
