UPDF Generals Saddle Up for Civilian Life

Seven top military leaders completed documentation for their upcoming retirement at Defence Ministry offices in Mbuya today. Chief of Joint Staff Major General Jack Bakasumba praised these officers for their outstanding work during decades of service. The generals helped build stronger military units and led peacekeeping missions across Africa. Their leadership contributed to regional stability and national security efforts. Bakasumba said these veterans deserve recognition for their dedication to Uganda and neighboring countries.

Lieutenant General Peter Elwelu heads the group of retiring officers. Major Generals Hudson Mukasa, Francis Ben Okello and George Igumba will also leave active duty this year. Brigadier Generals John Byuma, Dominic Twesigomwe and Augustine Kamyuka Kyazze complete the retirement list. Military leaders emphasized that stepping down creates opportunities for younger officers to advance through the ranks. New legislation will provide better healthcare benefits and burial honors for retired soldiers.

Lieutenant Colonel Onesmus Amanya warned the retiring generals about maintaining good health and proper behavior after leaving military service. The compensation official urged them to keep the same discipline they showed during active duty. Military veterans must adjust carefully when returning to civilian communities. Defence Ministry staff and legal representatives attended the documentation ceremony. Veterans Legal Aid Clinics sent representatives to support the retiring officers.
