UPM mourns founding member Willy Hochtritt

A Namibian political party just lost a foundational voice. United People's Movement founding member Willem Hochtritt, known as Willy, died at a hospital in Windhoek, confirmed party president Jan van Wyk. Hochtritt served the UPM in multiple roles since its 2010 formation, most recently as the Kavuki branch chairperson in Rehoboth and as the party's director of elections due to his expertise.

Van Wyk described Hochtritt as a reliable and capable representative, someone the movement could call on at short notice for any platform. The president stated Hochtritt often represented him personally at events and was always willing to provide advice.

The party's official statement highlighted Hochtritt's outspoken advocacy for his community in Rehoboth and his dedication to its development. They characterized his passing as the loss of a strong voice against oppression for the people of Rehoboth, noting he had a heart for others.

Hochtritt leaves behind a wife and children. A memorial service will be held at his Rehoboth home. The UPM framed his death as a great loss for both his family and the political movement he helped build.
