US hails Anwar for brokering Thailand-Cambodia ceasefire at Putrajaya talks

Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for mediating peace talks between Thailand and Cambodia. The United States expressed gratitude for Malaysia's diplomatic efforts in hosting the ceasefire negotiations. Rubio emphasized that both nations must honor their commitments to end border violence. President Trump and his administration expect full compliance with the peace agreement. American officials will continue supporting the Malaysia-led resolution process.

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai met at Seri Perdana Complex in Putrajaya. The face-to-face meeting lasted nearly two and half hours under Anwar's guidance as current ASEAN Chair. US Ambassador Edgard Kagan participated as co-organizer while Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing observed the proceedings. The leaders announced an immediate and unconditional ceasefire following their discussions. Border tensions had escalated since May when a Cambodian soldier died during military clashes.
