The United States designated The Resistance Front as a global terrorist organization following President Donald Trump's calls for justice after the Pahalgam attack. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Thursday that TRF would join both the Foreign Terrorist Organization and Specially Designated Global Terrorist lists. The group operates as a front for Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and claimed responsibility for the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam assault that killed 26 civilians. This attack marked the deadliest civilian targeting since the 2008 Mumbai bombings conducted by LeT. Trump contacted Prime Minister Narendra Modi immediately after the incident to express American support for bringing the perpetrators to justice.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed the TRF attack during recent Washington meetings with Rubio and Quad foreign ministers. India responded to the April assault by launching Operation Sindoor against LeT bases located within Pakistan. The terrorist designations will freeze TRF assets and impose travel restrictions on members while blocking their financial transactions.
