USA-based Zayyan Ahmed gets landmark Bangladesh U-23 call-up

Bangladesh Football Federation selected USA-based defender Zayyan Ahmed for the national Under-23 squad ahead of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers. The 19-member initial roster begins training August 1, 2025, in Dhaka with Ahmed as the sole foreign-based player. Assistant coach Hasan Al Mamun will receive players at Ascott The Residence in Baridhara by 7 PM on Friday. Ahmed impressed officials during overseas trials in June with his fitness and technical skills.

The federation expects the squad to expand near 30 players before finalizing 23 members for competition. Bangladesh faces Vietnam, Singapore, and Yemen in Group I during the qualifiers scheduled for September 3-9, 2025, in Vietnam. The team will conduct a pre-tournament camp in Bahrain from August 14-26 before departing for Vietnam on August 29. Players from Abahani Limited and Bashundhara Kings will join after completing AFC Challenge League matches around August 12.
