Valamar splurges big, Poreč primed for luxury makeover

Croatian tourism giant Valamar is dropping 245 million euros on upgrades, with most of the cash going toward finishing the Pical resort in Poreč. The five-star property is supposed to open next spring, and the company is calling it the biggest tourism project Croatia has ever seen. The Pical zone alone is eating up around 200 million euros of the total budget.

The rest of the money is going toward renovating older hotels into a new four-star spot called Sunny Poreč, building a high-tech laundry facility, and creating employee housing in the city center. Valamar is also funding a central kitchen project and throwing money at beaches and sports facilities across its properties.

Imperial Riviera, which Valamar owns, is putting 81 million euros into expanding the Arba Resort on Rab island and adding wellness facilities at a hotel in Makarska.
