Van Vicker Says Cedi Is Killing It

Actor Van Vicker praised President John Mahama for strengthening Ghana's cedi against foreign currencies, such as the American dollar. Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Asiama reports that the local currency gained 24 percent in value during early 2025. Van Vicker posted on Wednesday on social media, asking government leaders to keep doing whatever helps the cedi succeed. The film star said different people have different ideas about what caused the currency improvements. He believes the president and his team deserve recognition for their economic work.

The award-winning movie maker congratulated Mahama directly via a social media message about the currency's performance. Van Vicker advised the president to continue working hard, as Ghanaians appreciate the results. The actor criticized some citizens living overseas who complain about sending less money home due to currency fluctuations. He called these complaints selfish and said strong local money helps Ghana more than individual convenience. Van Vicker described the cedi's performance as excellent for the country's future economic health.

The entertainment personality stressed his comments were not political statements meant to support any party. He explained that good work deserves praise regardless of who does it. Van Vicker believes that highlighting positive results helps encourage leaders to continue implementing successful policies. The actor believes the current strength of the cedi can be sustained if the government continues to make smart economic decisions. He wants all Ghanaians to celebrate when their country's money performs well against world currencies.
