Vijay’s Karur rally stampede leaves 36 dead, chaos reigns

A deadly stampede at a political rally in Tamil Nadu's Karur district claimed 36 lives, with children and women making up the majority of casualties. The tragedy struck during a speech by actor-politician Vijay, leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam party, when crowds surged beyond control. Among the dead were 10 children and 17 women who fell after fainting during the chaos.

Political leader Vijay later issued a public statement expressing grief over the incident. Chief Minister MK Stalin convened an urgent meeting to address the crisis. The state government announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for each victim's family as immediate relief measures.
