Deadly TVK rally in Karur costs fans more than a vote

A deadly stampede killed 36 people and injured more than 58 others at a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam political rally in Karur on Saturday night. The tragedy occurred when crowds gathered to hear actor-politician Vijay speak at the campaign event. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for each victim's family and Rs 1 lakh for seriously injured attendees. The state government will cover all medical treatment costs for those hospitalized.

Stalin ordered a judicial inquiry led by retired Madras High Court Justice Aruna Jagadeesan to investigate the causes of the incident. Ministers Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Ma. Subramanian traveled to Karur to oversee rescue operations. Additional medical teams from neighboring districts were deployed to treat victims. The chief minister plans to visit Karur to meet affected families and injured survivors.
