Violent clash erupts between NUP, NRM supporters in Masaka

Clashes broke out in Masaka when campaign teams for National Resistance Movement candidate Joanita Nalule and National Unity Platform candidate Ronald Evans Kanyike met at Kidda trading centre junction in Nyendo–Mukungwe Division. According to witnesses, the incident began after a sound system truck in Kanyike's convoy stopped abruptly and blocked the roadway, preventing the NRM caravan from passing. The situation escalated when Kanyike left his vehicle to engage with opposing supporters, resulting in physical altercations that damaged his Land Cruiser Prado.

Each side blamed the other for instigating the confrontation. Kanyike claimed he was assaulted and is receiving medical care at a private facility, while accusing Nalule's team of crossing into his designated ward to disrupt his activities. Nalule countered that Kanyike routinely travels with provocateurs who ignore traffic rules and alleged he physically removed her car's side mirror before her supporters reacted.

Masaka resident district commissioner Billy Janet Mulindwa confirmed that security personnel responded to the scene, and both candidates have been summoned to provide statements as authorities investigate.
