Virtual reality cataract training kicks off at BCPS in Dhaka

Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons commenced a three-day virtual reality training program for cataract surgery procedures. Orbis International partnered with BCPS to deliver Hospital-Based Training at the Mohakhali Ophthalmology Skill Lab beginning Sunday. Vincent Berthon from Fundamental XR leads the instruction sessions for participating medical professionals. Eye care specialists from Bangladesh Eye Hospital, Chittagong Eye Infirmary and Training Complex, and Isphahani Islamia Eye Hospital attend the program. These participants will subsequently educate additional medical professionals throughout Bangladesh.

The simulation system allows surgeons to practice techniques and complication management using virtual eyes before performing actual operations. BCPS President Professor Dr Mohammod Shahidullah praised the initiative for enabling safe skill development. Orbis Country Director Dr Munir Ahmed emphasized that simulation training reduces surgical complications during early career stages. The program aims to strengthen Bangladesh's capacity for quality cataract care delivery. FVR Simulation technology provides realistic training environments that build surgical confidence and competency among ophthalmologists and residents.
