VP Chiwenga calls for transparent, tech-driven procurement systems

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has stated that the government is dedicated to fostering transparent and efficient public procurement systems. Addressing the African Public Procurement Network assembly in Victoria Falls, he emphasized that political will is fundamental to transforming these systems across the continent. He revealed that public procurement constitutes about 17 percent of Zimbabwe's GDP, underscoring its economic importance.

Chiwenga highlighted the establishment of the Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe as a key initiative for promoting professionalism. He told delegates that integrating technology, like e-procurement systems, is now essential for enhancing transparency and reducing corruption. He also stressed the need for capacity building to equip procurement professionals with the necessary skills and ethical standards.

The Vice President further urged for procurement strategies to align with Africa's Agenda 2063 and the African Continental Free Trade Area to foster regional collaboration and inclusive growth. He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as corruption and inefficiency, calling for robust regulatory frameworks and multi-stakeholder collaboration to address them.
