Wema Bank rewards top teachers with N4.5m prizes

A Nigerian financial institution distributed awards worth more than 4.5 million naira to five educators during a ceremony recognizing their contributions to student development. Wema Bank hosted the event at its Marina headquarters in Lagos as part of its 2025 campaign honoring instructors who have influenced multiple generations.

Abraham Ngobiri received 2 million naira for his work through Teens-Train, while Esther Babasola Adesada earned 1.5 million naira for establishing Heritage X Foundation. Taiwo Alabi collected 1 million naira for creating Educycle. Managing Director Moruf Oseni stated that instructors represent unrecognized champions behind every significant accomplishment and their commitment to developing minds strengthens communities.

The bank launched its recognition program in September by requesting students and former pupils to share 80-second recordings celebrating memorable mentors. Ten candidates advanced to the final judging before three winners emerged. Ngobiri expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment and said the honor energizes his dedication to guiding teenagers. Adesada called the recognition valuable encouragement during a challenging period. The institution has invested over 20 million naira through prizes and guidance initiatives that have reached more than 3,000 students at 10 schools.
