Wendy Shay denies replacing Ebony, slams rumors

Ghanaian vocalist Wendy Asiamah Addo has pushed back against persistent speculation that she entered the music industry as a substitute for Ebony Reigns, the dancehall performer who died in 2018. The artist, who performs under the name Wendy Shay, addressed the issue during an appearance on United Showbiz on Saturday.

She emphasized that neither she nor her manager, Bullet, ever suggested she would fill the void left by Ebony. Wendy Shay questioned the logic behind such expectations, asking whether people should embrace or reject someone positioned as a replacement for a departed loved one.

RuffTown Records signed Wendy Shay following Ebony's death in a February 2018 accident. Because both women worked with the same label, audiences immediately began drawing parallels between them. The Survivor singer made clear that her efforts have centered on establishing her distinct artistic path rather than attempting to continue another performer's work. She rejected the replacement narrative that has followed her career since its beginning.
