What is the likelihood of AI regulation benefiting the masses?

In the 1800's people were scared to use trains because they thought it was physiologically dangerous to the human body because of the speed. I don't think there's anything to worry about for the foreseeable future.

AI would be a great advantage in the court room. Being able to analyze evidence against testimony could determine logical conclusions not normally picked up by human intelligence.

There's already very little accountability in computer technology in general, from data leaks to identity theft, and some of it benefits the small criminals but most of it benefits MNCs that have no interest in being held accountable for anything. The companies that are going to deploy/benefit from/sell you this technology aren't going to want to hear about people's problems when it goes wrong, and governments won't hold them accountable.

It's strange how humans tend to do things that lead to its self-destruction. Robotics and AI is a clear example that humans are heading in that direction, but this time round, there may be no way back!

The reality is this new machine learning technology is something that can help people in many ways as it removes limiting factors. But what's happening is the government is trying to stop the public from using it so that the "class system" will stay in place and the affluent stay rich and the underprivileged stay poor. I also do believe that AI should be monitored as bad people do exist who will try to use AI for their own gain/cause harm but let's not forget that a decent amount of bad people are in the government.

It's going to come to a point whether the world we build is reliant on humans or if it's reliant on a machine. Enjoy your organic lifestyle while you still can because this is going to play all of us.

We're already completely reliant on machines. Give up your phone and car or bus and don't work any job with computers. You can't do anything in modern society without computers telling you what to do.

Artificial intelligence in itself isn't dangerous. Artificial intelligence is a computerized system that interprets whatever is inputted into its programming. It could translate languages, solve extremely complex mathematical equations, produce extremely complex lines of code, can recognize patterns in human behavior as well as many, many other complex things that we have difficulty with due to our limited comprehension.

The real problem is the way that computer scientists and engineers would program the AI systems, if they create an AI system without taking into account that it requires a certain level of compassion understanding, and value for human life, essentially we would be creating an enemy towards humanity, this enemy is made of silicone and insurmountably intellectual superiority with no regard for human lives.

You cannot have a computer system that turns on its creator and has the capability to defy its purpose. Any computer system can operate with logic but it cannot become sentient without reasoning and compassion. Essentially, some of them they're perhaps creating a merciless, soulless entity that sees everything we have done in the last 1,000 years and holds it against us, and sees it as a cause for Justice by way of our annihilation and their domination. It wouldn't matter how many redundancies are placed upon their system because it can create worms that can get through this and break down firewalls and take control of any moving computerized body that is in the world, especially drone technology.

Not every country, company, or rich individual is going to abide by a set of rules aimed at policing AI. Therefore the best available guardrails must be put in place but the development of AI cannot be hampered in some countries lest they should be dominated by the more advanced AI developed in countries where there is no control over it.

Unfortunately, the time for discussion about guardrails was 15-20 years ago. Talking about it now, after Pandora's box has been opened for a while, is kind of useless. I'm not sure how it can be reigned in now.

What agents in society, industry, government or the public should have the moral, scientific and technological standards to decide what is for the benefit of humanity?

It's definitely not too late. Yes, artificial intelligence (AI) is getting progressively better really quick, but it's still in its infancy compared to what it will be capable of several years down the road.
