The issue is that most women rarely date or marry a man who earns less then them.

And if a woman earns more money than her man then she may not want to put up with thoughts of marriage as she no longer see this as beneficial later on in life.

If you look around you can see quite a few examples of very rich women who haven't been married because of that rationale.

That's tricky because in some places if you have lived together for the past few years or so you are automatically considered to be in a civil binding partnership (i.e., cohabitation) which is considered to be the same thing as marriage when it comes to you breaking up and dividing assets.

On the other side of things when you decide to get married you can have a prenuptial agreement ("PNA" or "premarital agreement" ) set up, but in the case of "cohabitation," you don't so you could still end up paying alimony (i.e., "spousal support") even though you were never married.
