White South Africans Want to Stay in Their Country.
Some people in South Africa said they did not want to move to America, even though President Trump offered to help them. These people are called Afrikaners. They speak a special language, and most of their families have lived in South Africa for many years.
President Trump made a rule that America would stop giving money to South Africa. He thought the South African leaders were being mean to white farmers. He wanted to let these farmers come live in America where they would be safe.
Two big groups that speak for white South Africans met with newspeople. The leaders of these groups said thank you to Trump for caring but explained their people wanted to stay home. Dirk Hermann leads one of these groups. He said his people work in South Africa and want to build their future there.
The South African leaders were surprised by Trump's offer. They said white people in their country live better lives than most other South Africans. White farmers own most of the farming land, and very few white people are poor compared to black people.
The South African government is trying to make things fair for everyone. Many years ago, black people lost their land and rights during a time called apartheid. The leaders want to give some land back to black families. Some white people do not like this idea and think it is unfair.
Even though some white South Africans are worried about changes in their country, they still want to stay. They love their home and believe they can work together with all South Africans to improve things for everyone.
