Who owns Exquisite Car Sales in Zimbabwe?

Victor Matiyenga owns Exquisite Car Sales (also known as Exquisite Cars) in Zimbabwe. He established the dealership after starting his career washing cars at his father's business.

The Journey of Victor Matiyenga​

Victor began his career in the automotive industry working at his father, Washington Matiyenga's, car dealership. Instead of pursuing a university education, he joined his father's business, where he initially worked washing cars and cleaning. He was not allowed to speak with clients during this early period of his career.

After two years of washing cars, Victor was promoted to sales representative, which allowed him to interact with customers and earn both a salary and commission. He eventually saved his earnings to start his own car sales company.

The Birth of Exquisite Cars​

In 2014, Victor's father gave him money to buy a resale car, which marked the beginning of Exquisite Cars. The first vehicle he sold was a Toyota Altezza. He initially established a car sale in Kensington, Harare.

As his business grew and he acquired more clients, Victor rented an office where he could meet with customers. In 2017, he found a location at the corner of Mazowe Street and Josiah Tongogara Avenue in Harare, which he rented for his car sales business.

Growth and Development​

The dealership continued to grow, and in 2020, Victor began working on building a showroom because the vehicles he was selling needed a more appropriate display space. This development led to Exquisite Cars' evolution into the prominent dealership it is today.

The showroom was completed in 2022. It features a high glass enclosure that provides a view of the top-of-the-range vehicles inside. The dealership grounds include lush green lawns and carefully constructed concrete pathways that create an ideal ambiance for a modern car dealership.

Current Status and Achievements​

Today, Exquisite Cars is one of the leading automotive industry players in Zimbabwe. The dealership specializes in luxury, high-end vehicles, including the latest BMWs, modern Toyotas, and Audis. It prides itself on top-of-the-range vehicle sales and valuations.

Victor Matiyenga has received recognition for his business success. In 2020, he was honored as the Businessman of the Year in Automotive Services, while his company was named Company of the Year in the same category.

Future Plans​

Victor has expressed plans to establish a double-story showroom that would include a service center, allowing his clients to receive all automotive services under one roof. His vision is to create a comprehensive car dealership that combines sales and maintenance services, though he has mentioned that acquiring suitable land for this expansion has been a challenge.

The businessman has also indicated interest in expanding his operations beyond Zimbabwe's borders in the future.

Business Philosophy​

The dealership aims to disrupt traditional automotive retailing by putting customers at the center and pursuing dynamic new ways of working that align with leading market trends outside Zimbabwe. Victor believes that the interruption of conventional automotive retailing is just beginning and will accelerate in the coming years as nimble players introduce new business models.
