Wiaan Mulder scores second-fastest triple century in Test history

Wiaan Mulder just made cricket history with one of the most amazing performances ever seen. The South African captain smashed his way to a triple century against Zimbabwe faster than almost anyone before him. He needed just 297 balls to reach the massive milestone. Only one player has ever done it quicker than Mulder managed. Virender Sehwag holds the record with 278 balls back in 2008.

The 27-year-old became the first captain ever to score a triple hundred on his debut as team leader. He also became the youngest captain to reach 300 runs in Test cricket history. Mulder broke a record that had stood for 61 years. Bob Simpson from Australia previously held that mark. The powerful batsman started day two already sitting on 264 runs.

Mulder rewrote the record books with his stunning display against the Zimbabwe bowlers. He overtook Graeme Smith as the highest-scoring South African captain ever. His 264 runs on the first day set another South African record. Only Hashim Amla had previously scored a triple century for South Africa. The all-rounder formed two massive partnerships that took the game away from Zimbabwe completely.
