A major musician just got a huge traditional title. Wiyaala, known as the Lioness of Africa, will become the Paramount Queenmother of the Funsi Traditional Area. The Funsi elders and kingsmen will perform the ceremony following the area's new paramountcy status, a move she called a historic development for local culture.
The same day will also see the launch of the new Pulung Festival. An evening festival at the Wiyaala Art Centre in Funsi will feature numerous performers. The lineup includes Gally, Samson B, The Yaga Yagas, Savage Dancers from Slovenia, and B-Prince. Other acts are F-Boy, Saadia, Apaco, Iron Bwoy, the Boys and Girls Club, the Chansiye Dance Group, and the Chansiye Women's Group.
Organizers have invited everyone, both from inside and outside the Funsi Traditional Area, to attend. They expect the combined enskinment and festival to mark a significant cultural milestone for the community. The events will all be hosted at her own Wiyaala Art Centre location.
