Wizz Air adds new Polish routes to Rijeka

Budget airline Wizz Air will launch service to Rijeka for the first time, linking the Croatian city with Katowice, Lublin, and Gdansk in Poland. Flights begin next year with twice-weekly operations from Katowice and Lublin, while Gdansk will see three weekly departures through the summer season. The carrier has also secured airport slots for a potential Warsaw Chopin route, but has yet to finalize that schedule.

The airline recently announced it would sell three Airbus A321neo jets and drastically reduce its long-haul aircraft order from 47 planes to just 11. Wizz Air is postponing delivery of 88 A321neo aircraft until the early 2030s and converting 36 A321XLR orders to the standard A321neo model. Company executives anticipate annual capacity growth between 10 and 12 percent through the decade's end, with the entire fleet transitioning to Airbus Neo variants by 2029. The budget carrier shuttered its Vienna base and Abu Dhabi subsidiary, concentrating operations in Central and Eastern Europe while pursuing aggressive cost reductions.
