Equity Bank brought hundreds of women together Thursday for a big money skills class in Iganga town, Uganda. They want to help women business owners learn better ways to handle cash and grow their companies. This program started back in March 2024 and goes by the name "Abakyala ku Ntiiko." Many small business owners from all over the Busoga area showed up ready to learn new skills.
Women at the event learned about keeping good records, managing money, and finding loans with fair rates. The bank created special products just for female entrepreneurs who need help expanding their small shops and services. Many women who attended said they felt more confident about running their businesses after learning these new skills.
Ruth Nakaima, Deputy Speaker of Iganga Municipality, praised the bank for making such a big difference. She mentioned how these lessons have helped women step forward with new business ideas. Ronald Nakhasanga from Equity Bank talked about how women form the backbone of Uganda's economy. He explained that teaching money skills helps these business owners control their future.
The bank offers many different loans, including the EquiMama business loan, youth loans, school fees help, and support for buying equipment. Barbara Namata explained that they give micro-loans and youth SME loans up to 40 million Ugandan shillings. They even created the EquiGreen program for businesses that help the environment. Several women shared stories about how bank loans helped them buy more products to sell and use digital tools.
Beyond just teaching, the event lets women connect to share advice and find business partners. Equity Bank plans to hold more of these events very soon - March 25 in Lira and March 28 in Kiboga. This shows how the bank wants to keep supporting women business owners throughout Uganda. Their goal remains to help female entrepreneurs succeed across the entire country.
