Xiaomi Chips Scrap Cache for Epic Battery Wins

Xiaomi built their XRING 01 chip using advanced 3nm technology from TSMC. Engineers wanted to match other top chips without wasting battery power. They made smart choices about what parts to add and remove. The team focused on making every piece of the chip work well together. Space costs money when making chips smaller.

The XRING 01 chip has 10 processing cores instead of the usual 8 cores. Xiaomi gave these cores 16MB of special fast memory called L3 cache. Each core type gets different amounts of cache memory to work with. The graphics chip has 16 cores and 4MB of cache memory. The AI chip has 6 cores and 10MB of cache memory.

Xiaomi left out something called SLC cache from their chip design. This choice might make some tasks run slower than other chips. However, removing SLC cache helps save battery power during light work. The company added extra cache memory to other parts to make up for this loss. Tests show the chip performs almost as well as top competitors.
