Xiaomi copies Apple, skips to 17 and adds a Pro Max phone

Xiaomi abandoned its planned 16-series smartphone launch and jumped directly to the 17-series naming scheme. The Chinese manufacturer made this decision to synchronize with Apple's iPhone 17 release strategy. The company also renamed its premium "Ultra" model variant to "Pro Max," further mimicking Apple's nomenclature. Xiaomi described this upcoming lineup as representing their greatest technological advancement. The base model will maintain its predecessor's price point of approximately 4,499 CNY despite significant performance improvements.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor powers these devices while keeping costs stable at around $630 for entry-level units. Leaked specifications reveal the 17 Pro Max will feature a rear display embedded within the camera module design. This secondary screen allows users to view notifications without activating the main display. Rendering images show a third camera sensor positioned below the primary lens, likely serving ultra-wide photography functions.
