Yamanaka backs Zimbabwe growth ties

The outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Shinichi Yamanaka, has reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Zimbabwe's economic development. Following a farewell meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the ambassador stated that Japan would maintain its level of development cooperation across multiple sectors. He highlighted ongoing support for infrastructure projects like road rehabilitation, food assistance, landmine clearance, and educational scholarships.

Ambassador Yamanaka noted that President Mnangagwa's two visits to Japan this year significantly strengthened bilateral relations. He reported growing business ties, including new exports of sesame and the mineral petalite to Japan. The ambassador also expressed interest from Japanese companies in employing talented Zimbabweans within the information technology industry, praising the local workforce. He concluded that his short but fulfilling tenure laid a strong foundation for a continued comprehensive partnership between the two nations.
