Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared that over 500,000 Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students will receive overdue scholarship payments before Diwali. The students faced delays after educational institutions failed to upload required documentation to government systems. Officials will distribute funds directly through the Direct Benefit Transfer mechanism while accountability measures target those responsible for administrative errors. The announcement came during a ceremony where the Chief Minister awarded scholarships to more than 400,000 students.
State scholarship expenditure has risen from 1,648 crore rupees in 2017-18 to 3,124 crore rupees for 2025-26. Technology and artificial intelligence systems have eliminated previous delays and discrimination that affected scholarship distribution. Between 2017 and 2025, approximately 12.3 million SC/ST students received 9,150 crore rupees through these programs. The government cleared all outstanding payments from 2016-17 and 2017-18 after taking office.
