Yousaf Raza Gillani escapes TDAP scandal as court clears him in nine cases

A court cleared Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani of nine more corruption charges. The politician beat the rap in cases tied to the massive Trade Development Authority scandal. Gillani has beaten 12 charges out of 26 total cases the feds brought against him. The judge accepted his legal papers asking for freedom from prosecution. The court said prosecutors could not prove their case against the top politician.

The Federal Investigation Agency went after Gillani hard over the trade authority mess. Government investigators claimed crooked companies stole billions in trade money. The scam involved fake paperwork and backdated checks during his time as Prime Minister. Prosecutors said fraudulent businesses got massive payouts they never deserved. The corruption happened when Gillani led the Pakistan Peoples Party government.

The court used a special legal rule to free Gillani from the charges. Section 265-K lets judges toss cases when they think conviction looks impossible. The prosecution failed to convince the court they had enough evidence. Gillani walked free on nearly half the cases filed against him. Other suspects still face charges as the investigation continues across multiple courts.
