Yunus flies to New York with rival leaders for UNGA unity

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus departs Monday morning for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly's 80th session. Mohammad Nakibur Rahman from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will meet the delegation in America, while Dr Tasnim Jara from the National Citizen Party travels from Dhaka. The group also features BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP member Humayun Kabir, Jamaat leader Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, and NCP representative Akhter Hossen. Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain confirmed Yunus will address the assembly on September 26. The chief adviser reaches New York on September 22 and returns home October 2.

Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder praised the diverse political representation as evidence of national solidarity. The delegation will participate in a special Rohingya conference on September 30, marking the first such high-level UN event. Political leaders from different parties will demonstrate unity before the international community during this significant diplomatic mission. Elections scheduled for February make this assembly particularly important for Bangladesh's political future. The visit allows various party representatives to work together on foreign policy matters.
