Yvonne Nelson goes from rap dreams to acting fame

Yvonne Nelson started out wanting to rap instead of act. The famous star told viewers on The Career Trail how she became an actress without planning it. Nelson heads YN Productions today, but her first love was music. During her school days, she rapped with friends in a group that copied the Fugees, where she played a part similar to Lauryn Hill.

Her path changed when producer Abdul Salam spotted her at Afrikiko. He talked to her, asked for her phone number, then called her to visit his movie set. Nelson never tried out for any acting jobs before that lucky meeting. She calls it destiny that brought her into movies and TV shows.

The early days were hard for Nelson as she learned to act. Once, when filming with veteran actor Kofi Adjorlolo, she kept messing up her lines. Adjorlolo walked off the set completely mad. He told everyone they should replace her because she wasted their time by not knowing her part.

Nelson stuck with it despite these rough moments. She taught herself acting skills during actual filming. After those early struggles, Nelson decided acting needed her full attention. She put real effort into improving since nobody trained her beforehand. This dedication helped turn her from a wannabe rapper into the successful actress and producer many Ghanaians admire today.
