Zakir Naik's Bangladesh visit depends on the ministries' approval

Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain stated Sunday that any visit by international preacher Zakir Naik to Bangladesh requires formal clearance from the Home and Foreign Ministries. He clarified this after meeting with two Tabligh Jamaat faction representatives at the Secretariat, explaining that the matter fell outside his authority. Khalid emphasized he holds no personal influence over the decision, though a delegation had sought his support for inviting Naik.

Khalid confirmed national elections are anticipated in February, with authorities maintaining regular dialogue with political groups to ensure a credible process. Regarding the National Citizens Party's delayed July Charter endorsement, he expressed confidence that dialogue would resolve the situation. He acknowledged that liaison mechanisms exist between government and opposition figures to address minor disagreements through communication. Khalid declined to confirm specific committee formations but affirmed ongoing efforts to maintain political stability ahead of polls.
