Zambia in Shock as Edgar Lungu Dies

Kenya's President William Ruto mourned former Zambian leader Edgar Lungu after his sudden death. Ruto called Lungu a progressive leader who served Zambia with dedication. The Kenyan president sent prayers to Zambian families during their difficult time. Officials have not shared what caused Lungu's death. African leaders across the continent expressed sadness about losing the former president.

Edgar Lungu served as Zambia's sixth president from 2015 until 2021. He started his career as a lawyer before entering politics under President Michael Sata. Lungu won the presidency after Sata died unexpectedly during 2014. His government focused on building roads and expanding electricity production. Critics blamed him for increasing national debt and economic problems.

Lungu lost the 2021 election to current President Hakainde Hichilema peacefully. He accepted defeat gracefully and earned praise for respecting democratic rules. Regional leaders appreciated his smooth transition from power. Zambia remains important for African economic cooperation and peacekeeping efforts. The government will announce funeral plans soon.
