Zamfara Students Rejoice as Exams Unlocked

Thousands of Zamfara students finally received their exam scores after waiting many years. Governor Dauda Lawal paid old debts that previous leaders owed to testing agencies. WAEC and NECO held back results from 2014 through 2022 because nobody paid the fees. Students could not prove they graduated or apply for college during this long delay. The testing companies refused to release any scores until someone settled the bills.

The governor spent over 2.7 billion naira to fix this education crisis. His government gave 1.4 billion naira to WAEC and 320 million naira to NECO. Officials promised to pay the remaining debts from 2014. This money opened doors for students who thought their education was worthless. Many young people can now apply for jobs and higher learning programs again.

After discovering these problems, Zamfara declared an education emergency in November 2023. Workers fixed more than 500 broken schools across the state. Teachers received new training to help them teach students better. Public school kids missed the 2023 WAEC exam but took the 2024 test. NECO agreed to release scores from 2014 to 2018 after receiving partial payment from the state.
