ZANU PF takes Mangwe, Gutu, Chimanimani

ZANU PF won all three council by-elections held over the weekend, taking seats in Mangwe, Gutu, and Chimanimani districts. The ruling party captured a ward in Matabeleland South that had been held by opposition forces for two decades.

Benjamin Ndlovu secured 463 votes against independent candidate Tshaka Moyo's 137 in Mangwe Rural District Council Ward 12. The seat became available after an opposition councilor died in August. Tawanda Matare won decisively in Gutu Rural District Council Ward 4 with 800 votes compared to independent rival Farai Manguwo's 53.

Chipo Hlerema claimed victory in Chimanimani Rural District Council Ward 21 with 982 votes, defeating National Consultative Assembly candidate Janet Chitendeva, who received 93. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission announced the results. Party officials credit the victories to President Mnangagwa's economic policies and programs benefiting local communities.
