Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi rolled out plans for a performance review system that'll supposedly make government leaders more accountable and productive. He dropped this during World Ethics and Human Rights Day celebrations at Dimani Conference Hall, and he made it clear that public servants better file their ethics paperwork by the end of the month or face consequences.
Only 530 out of 2,750 leaders have bothered turning in their forms, which is like 19 percent. The anti-corruption agency ZAECA managed to claw back about 6.4 billion shillings and some dollars between January and October from dodgy dealings.
Mwinyi wants government folks using media to actually tell citizens what's happening with development projects, and he gave props to the Public Leaders Ethics Commission for dealing with 28 complaints about leaders acting sketchy.
