Zanzibar lawmakers back Mwinyi’s development vision

Zanzibar's House of Representatives pledged unanimous support for President Hussein Mwinyi following his inauguration of the 11th legislative assembly, with lawmakers committing to facilitating the implementation of development initiatives outlined in his address. Representatives described the speech as comprehensive and visionary, noting it identified 15 priority sectors, including youth employment, economic empowerment, infrastructure, tourism, education, healthcare, and social services for both Unguja and Pemba islands.

Nominated member Idrissa Kitwana Mustafa characterized the address as practical guidance based on the president's demonstrated ability to deliver campaign promises during his first term. Kijini Constituency Representative Badria Attai Masoud emphasized the five-year development roadmap's clarity, while youth representative Khadija Salum Ali highlighted its inclusive approach, addressing women, entrepreneurs, children, elderly citizens, and traders. Legislators stressed their commitment to upholding peace and stability as essential conditions for achieving the administration's economic growth objectives across the archipelago.
