Zanzibar links up with China on health grind

Zanzibar Health Ministry officials announced they are locked in with China on ramping up medical cooperation across the islands, with a major focus on handling schistosomiasis and other conditions. Director Amour Suleiman Mohamed met with a squad from Jiangsu Province Public Health Institute and explained how the partnership brings specialist doctors annually while backing disease elimination work that pushed Pemba schistosomiasis rates under one percent. The Chinese medical team moved operations to Unguja and started collaborating with the Neglected Tropical Diseases unit, plus the Zanzibar Health Research Institute, on capacity building and joint studies.

Jiangsu Province Director General Zhou Minghao is committed to expanding professional training programs and disease control initiatives going forward. The cervical cancer screening assistance covers women on both islands for early detection that dodges expensive late-stage treatment costs. Project supervisor Saleh Juma Mohamed confirmed the third phase got approved to completely wipe out schistosomiasis from both territories after the second phase successfully dropped prevalence to one percent through community and school interventions.
