ZETDC hikes fees for wiring and generator safety

Zimbabwe's electricity provider has implemented stringent safety protocols requiring comprehensive electrical system evaluations across the national infrastructure. The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company announced mandatory inspection procedures designed to mitigate electrical hazards and protect residential and commercial properties from potential catastrophic incidents.

Responding to recent escalations of electrical accidents and house fires, ZETDC established a standardized inspection framework with specific verification fees. Generators and electrical installations must undergo meticulous safety assessments, with charges determined by equipment capacity and technological specifications. Petrol, diesel, solar, and wind-powered generators will face systematic scrutiny under the new regulatory approach.

Inspection fees range from five dollars for smaller generators to one hundred dollars for advanced safety evaluations of larger systems. Property owners must comply with these mandatory assessments, which aim to prevent electrical shocks, fire risks, and systemic infrastructure vulnerabilities. ZETDC emphasized the critical nature of these interventions as proactive measures to safeguard public welfare.

The power utility stressed that customers should exclusively use official payment platforms during inspection processes. Warnings were issued against unauthorized individual transactions, highlighting the organization's commitment to transparent and accountable safety protocols. ZETDC articulated that temporary inconveniences pale in comparison to the paramount importance of protecting families and property from electrical system failures.
