Zheng Qinwen undergoes successful elbow surgery, focuses on recovery for future comeback

Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen underwent elbow surgery and shared the news through her Chinese social media platform on Saturday. The tennis star explained that persistent pain during training sessions forced her to seek medical attention from elbow specialists. Doctors advised immediate minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery to address the persistent discomfort affecting her performance. The procedure concluded successfully, and the athlete has begun her recovery process. She plans to concentrate on rehabilitation exercises before returning to competitive tennis.

The Chinese player recently struggled at Wimbledon, where she lost in the opening round. She also pulled out of the Washington WTA 500 tournament on Thursday due to her elbow condition. Zheng achieved her highest career ranking in fourth position in WTA singles this season. Her notable accomplishments this year feature reaching the Australian Open final and finishing as runner-up at the WTA Tour Finals. She successfully defended her Palermo championship by defeating Karolina Muchova in the final match in July.
