Zim Warriors Braced for Nightmare AFCON Group

Zimbabwe Faces Tough AFCON Draw Due to Low FIFA Ranking.

Zimbabwe's Warriors could face a difficult draw at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The team is ranked 121st in the world and 33rd in Africa.

The draw will take place tonight in Rabat, Morocco, and all 24 qualified nations will attend.

New ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi will be present. He was elected over the weekend.

Zimbabwe and Botswana have the lowest rankings of the qualified teams. This means they could be grouped with African powerhouses like Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.

The Warriors are making their sixth AFCON appearance. They missed the last edition due to a FIFA suspension. The ban ended in July 2023.

The 24 teams will be divided into six groups of four. The top two in each group advance to the knockout stage. The four best third-place teams also qualify.

AFCON 2025 is expected to break records set by the 2024 event in Ivory Coast. It attracts over 1.5 billion TV viewers and 2.4 billion digital streams.

Morocco last hosted in 1988. Matches will be played at world-class stadiums like Casablanca's Mohammed V.

Zimbabwe qualified second in their group behind Cameroon. Coach Michael Nees said the team is happy and has time to prepare.

The government has allocated $1 million for the Warriors' preparations. The new ZIFA administration will prioritize getting the team ready.
