Zimbabwe drops US tariffs for friendlier trade ties

Zimbabwe plans to cancel all taxes on American products. President Mnangagwa wants more US goods to enter Zimbabwe and hopes this will help sell local items to America. The president says these changes build a good relationship with Trump's team and that both countries can benefit from working together.

America started charging a basic 10% tax on everything it buys yesterday. Next Wednesday, they will hit Zimbabwe with an 18% tax on anything sent to America. Mnangagwa agrees that countries need to protect their jobs through fair taxes. But he prefers making friends across the world rather than creating enemies. That's why he decided to remove all fees on US products.

The president shared his plan on the social media platform X. He promised to tell his government to stop charging extra money when American goods arrive in Zimbabwe. This helps American companies sell more things to Zimbabwean people. At the same time, he expects this friendly move will help Zimbabwe sell more products to America, making trade fair for everyone.

US trade officials say they create these special taxes based on trade gaps between countries. They look at how much each country buys from America compared to what America buys from them. Last year, America bought $67.8 million worth of stuff from Zimbabwe. But Zimbabwe only bought $43.8 million from America. This created a $24.1 million difference between them.

President Mnangagwa believes removing taxes shows Zimbabwe wants to be friends with America. He thinks this open approach creates better chances for both countries. The president hopes this friendly move will lead to more business deals. By taking away these barriers, Zimbabwe makes the first step toward better trading with the United States under Trump's leadership.
