Zimbabwe entertainer Suluman Chimbetu draws crowds as fans return

Musician Sulu has brought back audiences that disappeared during the pandemic. The 43-year-old performer stays on stage longer after concerts than he used to do. Fans have embraced his eighth album called Tsapo. Many people who attended his shows before COVID-19 are coming back. Each week brings larger crowds to his performances.

Sulu has sold out venues across the country during his recent tour. The strong attendance has surprised him and confirmed his brand strength. Music experts had written off Sulu and his Orchestra Dendera Kings group. His father Simon Chimbetu left behind a difficult legacy to follow. Simon was one of the most popular musicians in Zimbabwe during the 1990s.

The elder Chimbetu competed against stars like Oliver Mtukudzi and Thomas Mapfumo. Simon filled concert halls in major cities across Zimbabwe. He became the top musician in the country for a period. Sulu faced enormous pressure to match his father's success. Most people knew he could never replace Simon's unique talent.

Sulu has surprised critics and built his career through hard work. He kept the Orchestra Dendera Kings band together after taking control. Many sons of famous musicians fail when they inherit their fathers' groups. Sulu has released eight albums and maintained his band members. His professional approach has earned him growing fan support.
