Zimbabwe's horticulture industry could grow into a massive $2.4 billion export powerhouse, according to the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency's early 2025 report. The sector needs about $800 million in investments but promises to create almost 587,000 jobs throughout the value chain.
The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development teamed up with the Horticultural Development Council for a major investment seminar in March 2025. They brought together government representatives, business leaders, and potential investors to explore ways to boost the industry as part of Vision 2030 goals.
The Horticultural Development Council shared data showing the industry can expand from 90,000 hectares to more than 132,000 hectares. Crops like bananas, blueberries, avocados, citrus, fresh produce, and macadamia nuts will drive this growth. Fresh produce alone may bring in $1.38 billion yearly and support over 378,000 jobs.
The HDC actively seeks investors at home and abroad for the $795 million needed. They have started reaching out to regional partners and global buyers to highlight these opportunities. The campaign aims to attract funding for transforming Zimbabwe's agricultural exports.
