Zimbabwe in Talks with Japan and Australia Over Expo

Japan's top diplomat in Zimbabwe, Shinichi Yamanaka, recently connected with Foreign Affairs Minister Amon Murwira to hash out plans for boosting economic cooperation. They zeroed in on two major upcoming events: the Osaka Kansai Expo 2025 and the ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development.

The Osaka Expo will run from mid-April through October, and TICAD 9 is slated for August. Ambassador Yamanaka described their conversation as productive and forward-looking, emphasizing the opportunity to strengthen business relationships and friendship between Zimbabwe and Japan.

TICAD 9 will bring together African and Japanese leaders to explore collaborative development strategies. Yamanaka highlighted ZimSat-1 as a standout achievement of their bilateral partnership, crediting Professor Murwira for initiating the first Zimbabwean satellite project during a previous TICAD meeting.

During the same diplomatic rounds, Australia's Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Minoli Perera, also met with Murwira. She warmly congratulated Zimbabwe on Kirsty Coventry's historic election as the International Olympic Committee president. Perera noted Coventry's connection to Australia, recalling her Olympic debut in Sydney and celebrating her groundbreaking achievement as the first African and first woman to hold the prestigious leadership position.
