Zimbabwe mandates digital deed conversion, sets 24-month deadline

Zimbabwe authorities require property owners to convert paper title deeds into digital format within 24 months. The Digital Land Administration Platform replaces traditional paper-based systems with secure electronic records. Property owners must submit original documents to comply with Statutory Instrument 76 of 2025. The Deeds Registry Office handles all official title deed issuance and validates legal ownership rights. Non-compliance prevents property sales and loan approvals while risking ownership rights.

The validation process requires original title deeds, valid identification, applicable fees, and completed application forms. Property owners may submit documents personally or through the electronic platform system. Third parties need valid Power of Attorney documentation to represent title holders during submission. Processing typically takes six weeks to several months to complete. The government shifted from paper records to prevent tampering and improve administrative efficiency.
