Zimbabwe Plans Nationwide Internet Rollout by 2030

Zimbabwe's government has big plans to bring the Internet to every corner of the country. The Cabinet just green-lit a massive project that will connect all 2,400 administrative wards with super-fast Internet.

Ministers Dr Jenfan Muswere and Tatenda Mavetera explained how they want to ensure that every part of Zimbabwe can go online. They're using cool tech like low-orbit satellites and fiber optic cables to reach even the most remote places. The plan covers schools, police stations, health centers, courts, and community centers. Basically, they want to ensure that nobody gets left behind when it comes to digital access.

The project kicks off next year and will run until 2030. It's all about helping rural communities jump into the digital world. People will get better internet, learn more about technology, and have easier ways to use digital services. The government hopes this will help people do banking online, learn new skills, and make government services work more smoothly.

They're talking to big tech companies like SpaceX's Starlink and local internet providers to make the internet cheaper and more available. The ministers promise to create free Wi-Fi zones in rural areas and work on bringing down the cost of data. It's part of a bigger plan to make Zimbabwe more connected and give everyone a chance to participate in the digital age.

This isn't just about the internet. It's about giving people in every corner of the country a chance to learn, grow, and connect with the world. From farmers to students, everyone could benefit from being able to hop online easily and affordably.
