Zimbabwe rolls out eight new taxes as digital, mining, and gambling hit

Your Netflix subscription just became a luxury item thanks to the government’s greed because Nick Mangwana confirmed eight fresh tax laws hitting everyone immediately. Digital services like Spotify, Starlink, and Bolt get slapped with a 15% withholding fee that banks deduct automatically during transactions. Regular shopping hurts worse since Value Added Tax jumped to 15.5%, while tourists lose their zero-rating perks on accommodation or safaris.

The administration decided to squeeze the mining sector with a 10% export duty on lithium ore and antimony, alongside a separate 3% levy on coal sales. Gamblers face absolute ruin seeing their winnings tax rocket from 10% to 25%. Betting operators endure a massive hike as well, since their gross takings duty leaps from 3% all the way to 20%.

Landlords renting out business spots must pay a 15% presumptive rental tax to force the informal market into compliance. Authorities also closed loopholes, placing special capital gains duties on selling shares in land-holding companies. These changes mark a total shift in revenue strategy that drains cash from basically every single industry and wallet in the nation starting January 2026.
