Zimbabwe will bring VAR into domestic football, with the Chibuku Super Cup final lined up as the country’s first match using the system. The Munhumutapa Challenge Cup is also expected to use it from the semifinals.
FIFA and CAF specialists have already joined ZIFA, Premier Soccer League officials, referees, stadium operators, and other local stakeholders for the rollout process. A FIFA training program will prepare referees and support staff, while certification will follow once participants meet the required standard.
CAF Referees Manager Felix Tangawarima confirmed the qualification process. ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi said the goal goes beyond adding technology, arguing that referees need stronger support and training when inconsistent calls lead to suspensions.
