Zimbabwean granny drug dealer trades her shop for community service

A grocery store owner in Chiendambuya got busted running a drug operation out of her shop.

Evelyn Mafetuka, a 56-year-old businesswoman at Muswe Business Centre in Makoni district, got nabbed by detectives who found dagga stashed around her store. Cops rolled up to the Kumbukani shop after getting tipped off that she was dealing dangerous substances from the premises. They ID'd themselves, searched the place, and recovered one packet hanging in a dish on her bedroom wall, plus three more packets hidden in a box under the counter.

Authorities hauled Mafetuka and the contraband to the station, then weighed everything at ZIMPOST, where it clocked in at 0.130 kilograms. Prosecutor Faith Mutukwa laid out how detectives got the intel and moved on it around 5:50 in the evening. The businesswoman appeared before Rusape Magistrate Barbra Mateko without representation and got convicted.

Mateko was handed down 24 months in prison, but suspended 12 months contingent on good behavior. The remaining time got converted to 420 hours of community service at Chimboza Primary School. The dagga went to the state as forfeited evidence.

In a separate bust, Lyton Showa from Vengere in Rusape faced charges for holding crystal meth. He showed up before Mateko, entered a guilty plea without a lawyer, and served six months behind bars. Four months got suspended based on good behavior, while the other four turned into 140 hours of community service at Vengere Clinic.

Detectives patrolling the Vengere suburb got word about Showa having illegal drugs on him in mid-afternoon. They tracked him down at his house, introduced themselves as officers, and searched him. A sachet of crystal meth turned up in his pants pocket, and forensics in Harare examined it for the court record.
