Zimbabweans slam protest calls to keep peace

People across Zimbabwe spoke out against protest calls spread by online troublemakers through social media. Government officials said these calls create a fake story about political problems that do not exist. Security forces stand ready to deal with any trouble that might happen.

Many Bulawayo residents said violent protests would hurt business operations, damage how people make money, and break the peace everyone enjoys right now. They asked the government to punish anyone who breaks laws. Mrs. Khangelani Msimanga, age 75, worried about what the demonstrations might cause.

She mentioned that experience shows violent protests harm the country and how citizens earn their living. She remembered shops being robbed and damaged during previous protests. These same businesses create jobs for young people. As someone who cares about her community, she cannot support such actions.

Ms. Sithembiso Ndlovu sells goods informally downtown. She lost money when looters took advantage of the chaos from earlier protests. She depends on selling items daily to feed her family. Each time protests force businesses to close, she loses income. She expressed her wish for peace throughout the city and country.

Another seller, who wanted to remain unnamed, questioned why they should help people with hidden goals. She stated in her local language that she makes her living from selling and firmly rejects the planned demonstration. The Zimbabwe Teachers Association works for education, not politics.

Dr. Sifiso Ndlovu runs this teaching organization. He made clear their group never formed to challenge government leadership. Their only interest focuses on educating children. When teachers have complaints, they address them through the proper channels already established. He encouraged all teachers to continue their normal work today.
